Biography

No birth or baptismal record has been found for Hugh. He was identified in a McArthur family tree as the son of Malcolm McArthur and Ann McDougall^[1] His place of birth came from census records, and his date of birth, 17 MAR 1812, from the Canadian 1901 census. ^[2] If he was the son of Malcolm and Ann, then Effie McArthur, who married Susanna's brother William, was a sister.

According to other family trees, Susanna Diamond married, on 21 April 1841, Hugh Malcolm MacArthur, the son of Malcolm MacArthur and Ann MacDougall. Although I was unable to find this marriage in the PEI Marriage Registers, the marriage license confirmed the date: Hugh McArthur (B) Lot 13 and Susanna Diamond (S), of Lot 12, by license by Rev. A. V. Wiggins on 21 April 1841. ^[3]

Died died at age 92 in Milburn PEI. 17 OCT 1906. Prince Edward Island. ^[4]

Does anyone have proof that Hugh was the son of Malcolm and Ann? Is there a family bible out there? An obituary? A land agreement or will? Neither his marriage record, nor his death record, gave his parents' names.
