From there he went to nova Scotia and taught in the neighbourhood of Antigonish. later he took up a farm at Hays River in Inverness County, but he came to Mabou to teach the family of the late Honourable William MacKeen. William Burke (37) is on the 1881 census with wife Margaret (34) and 2 small children; John (4) and Sarah (2). Also present are his parents Thomas (82) and Mary (74) as well as siblings; Margaret (40), Donald (34), Thomas (32), and Ellen (30).
