Donald Isaac (58) is on the 1871 census with wife Mary (50) and their children; Mary (27), Nancy (25), Flory (19), Catherine (17), Penny (14), Archibald (13) and Hugh (7).[1]
Donald McIsaac (69) is on the 1881 census with wife Mary (60) and their children; Mary (30), Ann (28), Flory (24), Penny (22), Arch'd (20) and Hugh (16).[2] JL MacDougall states that by 1922 "His son Archy is on the old homestead. All the rest, except Sarah (Mrs. McNeil) have gone to their eternal reward."[3]
Notes
On the children of Hugh MacIsaac..
Donald married Mary McPherson, daughter of Alexander McPherson. I suspect Donald (69) and Mary (60) are on the 1881 census at Young's Bridge.[2]
John married Christy McDonald (daughter of John) Broad Cove Banks. John (35) is on the 1871 census with Christy (35).[4]
Archy married Sarah, sister to John's wife Christy. I suspect Archy is deceased by 1871 and Sarah (40) is the widow next door to the other families mentioned.[4]
Angus married Flora McMaster from Judique
Mary married Donald McDonnell (Ranald's son). Mary (50) is on the 1871 census with husband Donald McDonell (70) and their family.[5]
JL MacDougall states the rest of the daughters (Jessie, Margaret, Catherine and Ann) remained single[3]
I'm making some tenuous connections with this MacIsaac family, but the name "Penelope" with it's root in Hugh MacIsaac's wife Penelope Campbell, appears to be a unique feature of this family. It is not a very common name among the Scots of the region at this time and the Penny MacIsaacs (and others through their mothers) sprinkled around Inverness County (specifically originating in Margaree) seem to be largely descended from that pair.
