Margaret Caroline "Carrie" Mixson was born in November 1866 in Alabama, United States. Her parents were Henry Josephas Mixson (~1839 - 1930) and Matilda J. (Snellgrove) Mixson (1841 - 1871).
She was enumerated as Margaret C. Mixon, age 3 years, in the household of her presumed father, Henry J. Mixon, on the 1870 United States Census. Other members of the household were her presumed mother, Matilda Mixon, her presumed sister, Ella M. Mixon, and Laura Johnson, whose occupation was described as house laborer. The enumerator spelled the family surname Mixon rather than Mixson[1]
She has not yet been located with certainty on the 1880 United States Census. She was not recorded in the household of her father. She was also not recorded with her paternal grandparents or her maternal grandparents. There was a record for a 14-year-old "Caroline Mixon" living in the household of William H. Cain and his wife Callie in Centerville, Coffee County, Alabama. It cannot be said with certainty that this was the Caroline Mixson profiled here, but it was possible. Perhaps she was living with the Cains as a helper since they were the parents of a very young child.[2]
M. C. Mixon and Thomas Jefferson Simmons were married on 1 March 1883 in Coffee County, Alabama. The marriage ceremony was performed by Reverend T. P. Osburn.[3] They were the parents of at least nine children.
Margaret and T. J. Sammons and their large family was living in Centerville, Coffee County, Alabama when the 1900 United States Census was taken. Margaret had given birth to eight children, all of whom were still living and were listed in their household. Two hirelings were also listed as members of their household.[4]
According to information recorded on the 1910 United States Census, Margaret was the mother of nine children, eight of whom were living. She, her husband Thomas, and five of the children were living in Centerville, Coffee County, Alabama.[5]
When the 1920 United States Census was taken, they were still living in Centerville, Coffee County, Alabama. Only two of their children were still living at home.[6]
Margaret Caroline "Carrie" (Mixson) Simmons passed away in 1927. She was 60 years old. She was buried in Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama.[7]
