Biography

Ella M. Mixson was born on 04 November 1868 in Alabama, United States. She was the daughter of Henry Josephas Mixson and Matilda J. (Snellgrove) Mixson (1841-1871).[1]

She was enumerated as Ella M. Mixon, age one year, in the household of her father, Henry J. Mixon, on the 1870 United States Census. Other members of the household were her mother, Matilda Mixon, her sister, Margaret C. Mixon, and Laura Johnson, whose occupation was described as house laborer. The enumerator spelled the family surname Mixon rather than Mixson.[2]

Ella's mother died in 1871, before Ella was even three years old.[3]

When the 1880 United States Census was taken, Ella Mixon was enumerated in the household of her father, Josephus Mixon. Ella was recorded as ten years old. Other members of the household were Josephus Mixon's wife Mary Mixon, and Ella's half-siblings David Mixon and Henry Mixon.[4]

Ella was married to Andrew Acey Hollis on 15 December 1887 in Ozark, Dale County, Alabama.[5] They were the parents of at least six children.

When the 1900 United States Census was taken, she was recorded as Eller Hollis, wife of A. A. Hollis. Her age was recorded as thirty-two years old. Other members of the household were their children, Henry Hollis, Norah Hollis, Clemey Hollis, and Hattie Hollis. The family was living in the Centerville/Haw Ridge area of Coffee County, Alabama.[6]

Ella M. Hollis, age forty-one, was enumerated in the household of her husband, Acey A. Hollis, on the 1910 United States Census. Other members of the household were their children, Henry E. Hollis, Han Hollis, Clem R. Hollis, Hattie Hollis, and Louie A. Hollis. She and Acey A. Hollis had been married for twenty-two years. The record said she was the mother of six children, six of whom were still living. They were living in Centerville, Coffee County, Alabama.[7]

Ella Mixson Hollis passed away on 14 February 1913.[1] She was buried in Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama.[8]
