Biography

This Joshua Morgan was a son of Esther (Stoddard) Packer (1740-1800) and Joshua Morgan (1733-1774), of Groton, Connecticut.

Note: His birth date is uncertain. The Morgan genealogy published that he was born in 1767 [1]. His online memorial site, in its header panel, presents the date as 16 Sep 1764, which is clearly an error because the depicted grave marker states that he "died in the 31st year of his age". This means that he was 30 years old, not yet attaining age 31. On the basis of these points of evidence, probably he was born in 1765.

Per both the Morgan and Fish genealogies, Joshua married about 1787, Jemima Fish [2]. Four children resulted from this union:

  1. Joshua Morgan (1788-); married Jane Fish
  2. Roswell Avery Morgan (1789-); married Jemima Fish
  3. Gilbert Fish Morgan (1792-1825); married Catherine Edgecomb
  4. Prentice Morgan (1795-1842); married Prudence Holmes Breed

Joshua Morgan died 9 Jul 1796 at Groton. His grave is in Avery-Morgan Burial Ground,, Groton, New London County, Connecticut, USA [3].

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joshua:
