Research Notes

In the court case 1830-1835 Clark County,KY court case of the daughter Hannah Morgan Hazelrigg et. al Vs her Brother William Morgan , George Boone in his deposition makes the following statements. “ William Morgan having procured a deed to be written called on this respondent to come over and have the deed executed in conformity to the understanding and this respondent went over to the residence of John Morgan who was then in bed in low feeble health and William Morgan informed his FATHER that the deed to his COUSIN George Boon was ready to be signed” [1] NOTE: George Boone is the son of Edward Boone who is a brother of Col Daniel Boone , See Spraker pages 70,71,72 and pg 506,507. [2]

In the book East Feliciana , Louisiana Past and Present pub 1892 by Henry Skipwith discussing the history of the area. The first wave was set in motion by the treaty with Spain in 1795, which defined the 31st parallel of north latitude as the boundary between Spain's provinces of Florida and the United States, and also guaranteed to American citizens, for three years, the right of deposit. On this first wave came into the Sixth Ward, to battle with the bears, panthers and wolves for possession and a peaceful home, John Morgan and Morgan Morgan, who having emigrated from Virginia to the wilds of Kentucky with their RELATIVE Daniel Boone, soon after the revolutionary war, turned their migratory longing southward in 1796, and in company with the Vardells and Thackers, founded their homes in the Sixth in the broad and fertile Amite valley. [3] This travel narrative is further supported and better refined by the tax documents and other records both in Ky and LA listed in the Morgan file.

In the book , Be it known and remembered : bible records; Vol. 03 , the Morgan Morgan Bible records & family History published by Louisiana Genealogical & Historical Society Vol 3 in 1962, The authors believes that the father of Morgan Morgan is the grandson of Edward Morgan and Elizabeth (Jarman) Morgan. [4] Although, they got the father wrong for Morgan Morgan, the person they believed his father John Morgan(Martha Constant) is a contemporary and lived at the same time and place as John Morgan II. [5] Only the 1st will of John Morgan II allowed the determination of the correct parents of Morgan Morgan. See the image of the 1st Will and the abstract of it in the Morgan File pg 26

In a newspaper article in the MORNING ADVOCATE Sunday, May 11, 1941 ,Baton Rouge, LA Page: 3, in a Genealogical column sponsored by Baton Rouge, Daughters of the American revolution it is stated. “ John Morgan Sr., left Virginia in 1775 and went to the eastern portion of Clark County, Kentucky. There his son Morgan Morgan (born 1760), married his COUSIN, Jane Boone, whose grandmother was Sarah Morgan (wife of Squire Boone). [6]

Clearly Henry Skipwith the author of the 1892 East Feliciana History, and the descendants of Morgan Morgan in the latter two references publications believed that FATHER of Morgan Morgan was related to Col Daniel Boone.

In a June 5, 1904 , 40 Days before she died, in a newspaper article Dorothy Smith Thompson, daughter of John M. Smith , and granddaughter Mary Morgan Smith , gr granddaughter of John Morgan II She was hoping to get a gravestone for her grandfather Reuben smith , stated she was a great grand niece of Col Daniel Boone. [7]

In the book Michael Reasor and Anna Herbert Descendants, and Related Families of Brown, Pectol, Galloway, Scott, Razor, and McCutcheon By Eunice Ann Cox Herbert published in 1969 States that Dorothy Smith, daughter of Reuben and Mary Morgan Smith , mother was Mary Boone. [8]

These two above references, clearly shows that descendants of John M Smith and his sister Dorothy Smith Reasor both children of Mary Morgan Smith , believed they were related to Col Daniel Boone.

Although some of the information is clearly wrong in the latter sources above, the duly sworn affidavit of George Boone and the other correctioning information in the attached Morgan file leads us to believe that the matter of who the parents of John Morgan II, is satisfactorily resolved and they are John Morgan and Sarah Lloyd.

Dna Verification

Boone Morgan triangulations

Wanting to verify the connections to the Boone family, and the Sarah morgan Boone, daughter of Edward Morgan and Elizabeth Jarman Morgan family. I run autosomal triangulations on gedmatch with A841199 Linda gunn, descendant of John Morgan II , and TW7679879 There were 26 valid triangulations on chromosome 1, not counting two close relatives, You can see all the triangulations at table below. We verified the triangulations did not fall in of the invalid pile-up points.

Point 1 : A841199 Linda Gunn, Desc of Reuben and Mary Morgan smith, dau of John Morgan II, “ https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/tree/85449901/family?cfpid=32524635390”

She is mentioned in his will dated Oct. 23, 1782, Fayette Co., KY. In John's 2nd will dated Dec. 12, 1800, Clark Co., KY, her husband Graham Hazelrigg is named as the executor of the will. On March 5, 1830, Hannah (Morgan) Hazelrigg filed a complaint with the Clark County Court against her brother William Morgan over land their father sold. In 1818, which John Morgan sold 175 acres of land to George Boone (a 1st cousin once removed, son of Martha Bryan and Ned Boone) for a $3500 bond. In March 1821, William bought back the same property. John’s daughter Nancy, late wife to Bartlett Searcy, Joseph Reardon, and Joseph Walden, was also listed as a defendant.”

Many of these early Morgan lines start in Pennsylvania from Edward Morgan who was born in Wales and came to Philadelphia. He eventually moved outside Philadelphia and helped create a new community. They were Quakers as was the Boone family. Many marriages occurred between these families.
