Biography

Parentage; Date and Place of Birth

Moses Morrill, son of Abraham Morrill and Sarah (Clement) Morrill, was born in Salisbury, Massachusetts on 28: 10m: 1655 (December 28, 1655).^[1][2][3][4]

First Marriage and Children

Moses married, first, Rebecca Barnes.^[3][4] No record of their marriage has been found. However, based on the date of birth of their eldest known child (August 1686), they were probably married about 1685.

Moses and Rebecca had the following children, all born in Amesbury, Massachusetts:

1. Rachel, b. August 12, 1686,^[5][3][4] m. Thomas Menkins^[4]
2. William Barnes, b. March 19, 1688, m. June 6, 1717 Lydia Pillsbury in Salisbury. (See discussion and sources in William's profile.)
3. Sarah, b. January 30, 1689/90. Hoyt suggested that she may have married Nathaniel Clement in Haverhill and had children there from 1715-1734; however, that appears to be incorrect. (See discussion and sources in Sarah's profile.)
4. Hannah, b. August 14, 1692,^[6][3][4] m. December 21, 1714 Abraham Brown in Amesbury^[4]

Moses's wife, Rebecca, died April 3, 1727.^[3][4]

Second Marriage

Moses married, second, Mary (Gove) Sanborn. Their marriage intentions were recorded in Amesbury on November 25, 1727.^[7][8] According to Moses's will (transcribed below), Mary left him sometime before he made his will in 1731 and took some of his money and goods with her.

Public Life

Moses was a husbandman or yeoman and a lieutenant in the local militia.^[4]

Will; Death; Estate

Moses made his will on May 14, 1731. In his will, he described himself as "Moses Morrill of Salisbury in the County of Essex yeoman." He made bequests to his wife Mary, son William, daughters Rachel, Hannah, Ann, Sarah and Judah, son-in-law Thomas Menkens, and grandchildren Moses Morrill, [Benjamin?] Quimby and Rebeca Morrill. He appointed his son William as sole executor. The will was witnessed by [nephew] Daniel Morrill, [nephew] Abraham Morrill and Jervis Ring.^[9] For a full transcription of his will, see Moses Morrill's Will.

Moses died in Salisbury on May 20, 1731.^[10][3][4]

Moses' estate (including land) was appraised on May 26, 1731 and valued at over 345 pounds.^[9]

Moses will was probated on June 7, 1731.^[9]
