Robert Munford is Notable.

Col Robert Munford performed Patriotic Service in Virginia in the American Revolution.

He was born about 1737 in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England and his parents were Anna Randolph (Bland) and Robert Munford.

He was mentioned in his father's 1743 Will. [1]

Robert Munford married Anne Beverley, daughter of William Beverley, of Essex, his cousin, and had issue.

He was in the c1760 French and Indian war under Col. William Byrd, last of that name.

When Brunswick County, Virginia was formed in 1765 he was made county lieutenant.

He was one of the first two members of the House of Burgesses, serving from 1765 to 1775. [2]

During the American Revolution he saw much service of different kinds. He was paid to be the Recruiting Officer of Mecklenburg County, Virginia.

He was a scholar and in 1798 published a volume of prose and poetry.

He made his last Will on 16 Dec 1783 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, USA.

He died about 1784 in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, USA. [3] [4]

On 08 Feb 1784 his estate was in the probate court of Mecklenburg County, Virginia, USA.

The trail is approximately 7 miles long. Walking the entire length will take about 7 hours. You may make a shorter 2 mile round trip to the cemetery from this trailhead. This will take about 2 hours.

Note that this trail ends at a trailhead located off State Route #705, Taylor’s Ferry Road.

This trail will lead you along the shoreline of John H. Kerr Reservoir, and through natural areas that only 200 years ago was the home of Robert Munford. He was one of the most important citizens of early Mecklenburg County. You will see the cemetery where he is buried.
