Elizabeth Munford

Born about 1734, Prince George County, Virginia.[1][2]
Married John Banister in Amelia County, Virginia (marriage bond issued 4 February 1755).[3]
Died 1770 (John Banister was married to Elizabeth Munford "1755-70; her death"),[4][5] probably at Battersea, Petersburg, Dinwiddie County, Virginia.

Research Notes

Notes

"After his return to Virginia, Banister married Elizabeth Munford in 1755. They had one son, John Banister Jr. born in 1767 (d. 1790). Following her death soon thereafter, he married Elizabeth "Patsy" Bland around 1771."[6] Note: This is the only source found that says Elizabeth Munford had a son with John Banister.

Banister was married three times. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Munford in 1755, and his second was to Elizabeth "Patsy" Bland, the daughter of Theodorick Bland of Cawsons[5] and the sister of Colonel Theodorick Bland.[4] (The online DAR database of Patriot Ancestors incorrectly shows her as "Mary Bland".[7])

Banister next married Ann Blair.[7]

Descendants are by this third wife. Although the Battersea Foundation says that Elizabeth Munford was the mother of John Banister, Jr., it also says that his sons by his third wife, Anne Blair, "progressed the Banister line still in existence today."[6]

Children: The Colonel John Banister Chapter of the DAR does not mention any children by Elizabeth Munford and notes that he and his second wife's three sons - Robert, John and Nathaniel - all died without issue.[5] The Battersea Foundation says he and his second wife, Elizabeth "Patsy" Bland, had three children: Elizabeth (1772-), Robert (1777-1794), and Maria Anne (1777-1788), adding that "Elizabeth’s death date is unknown, but we have reason to think that she lived beyond adolescence."[6]

John's third wife was "Anne (Nancy) Blair of Williamsburg,... born in May 1746, the seventh child of John and Mary Monro Blair". John and Anne married 26 February 1779[8] and had two sons: Theodorick Blair Banister and John Monro Banister.[5] John Monro Banister, youngest son of Colonel John Banister, was born in 1784. His wife Mary was "Mary Barton Augusta Bolling" according to one source,[8] another names her "Mary Burton Bowling" and notes that their son John later migrated to Alabama.[5]

found where the 27 Sep 1733 birth date came from - https://www.reynoldspatova.org/getperson.php?personID=I5176&tree=reynolds1 - which also says her parents are
"Robert Munford, Burgess; d. 1744; Burgess from Prince George Co 1736-40.
=a Anna Bland; b. 25 Feb 1710/1, Prince George Co; dau of Richard Bland of Jordan's Point, Burgess & Elizabeth Randolph.

The same page shows Elizabeth Bolling m (1) James Munford, (2) John Banister

Elizabeth Bolling's profile is Bolling-22. Which brings us full circle... Her marriage to John Bannister (abt.1700-1787) (Bannister-1549) is also noted as being 4 Feb 1755 (to 1770) in Amelia County, Colony of Virginia. sigh

Hi US Southern Colonies Project! I've added the project as a manager - mainly because of past confusion around her husband (caused by several father/son John Banisters in a row) and also because her parents are not identified by the sources listed (which is a little surprising, as the Munfords were an important Virginia family).

Cheers, Liz

Pat - I was going to reorganize the elements to conform to current WikiTree guidelines, but I couldn't quite tell what was what. I'm going to do some additional notes before reorganizing.

all done, except for whether or not it should be a project-managed profile or not. For now, I'm going to add the project account. Let me know if you'd rather go the other way (change project box to a sticker).

Pat - I'm thinking this profile should be managed by US Southern Colonies project (instead of changing the project box to a sticker). What do you think?

Cheers, Liz

Mumford-60 and Munford-82 do not represent the same person because: one is from the 18th century and married in Virginia, the other has living relatives born in 20th century NSW Australia so can't be the same person!
Munford-82 and Munford-60 appear to represent the same person because: duplicate profiles for the wife of John Banister b 1734
