He married Janet Bell (of Melrose) on 8 December 1817 at Melrose, Roxburgshire.[2][3][4]
Their children were: Margaret, Andrew, Mary, Janet, Alexander, and William.
The family appeared on the 1841 census at Kelso. William was now recorded as a barber. His sons, Andrew, Alexander and William were recorded respectively as a Printer (Independent), a Saddler apprentice, and a White Smith apprentice.[1]
