Biography

Birth : Michael is believed to have been born c.1806 (since he was apparently still aged less than 21 when he married in August 1826).^[1] His place of birth is given as PA on the 1880 census record for his son, Noah^[2], and as IN on the death record for his son, Silas in 1913.^[3] More evidence is needed to confirm the date and place, and to establish whether he used the middle name David.

Marriage and children : Licence was granted for Michael's marriage to Peggy Driskell in Washington Co., Indiana on 15 Aug 1826, with the consent of both fathers. Research notes cite Wash. Co. In. Marriages Book A, p.178.^[1] An earlier unsourced version of the profile notes that Michael was then aged 20, and Peggy was aged 16.

It is assumed from the documentation associated with Michael's estate (see Death and burial) that these were the children of Michael and Peggy :

An earlier version of the profile recorded another son named Solomon, born 1824 and died in childhood. No evidence is available to confirm this, but the child would have been born when Michael was aged about 18 and Peggy aged about 14, two years before their marriage.

1840 : In Monroe, Washington, IN : Michael Mayers.^[4] Household includes :

• 1 male aged 60-70 (presumed to be David)
• 1 male aged 30-40 (presumed to be Michael)
• 1 female aged 30-40 (presumed to be Peggy)
• 2 males aged 10-15 (presumed to be Noah and either Jonas or Enoch)
• 2 males aged 5-10 (presumed to be Angelo age 6 and either Jonas or Enoch)
• 2 males aged under 5 (presumed to be Silas age 4 and Solomon age 2)
• 1 female aged 5-10 (presumed to be Mary age 8)
• Jos. Myers living next door, possibly Michael's brother. Household includes 1 male aged 20-30, 1 female aged 20-30, 1 male aged 5-10, 1 male under 5

Death and burial : Michael died some time before 14 May 1849, when his estate was given into the administration of Noah Myers. Research notes cite Wash. Co. In. Probate Book F, p.182. The file apparently names his widow as Margaret Myers [sic] and specifically identifies Noah Myers, Enoch Myers, Jonas Myers, Mary Harrison and her husband, and the "remaining 6 heirs".^[1]

Entries in books of Common Pleas on identify other persons associated with Michael in 1856.^[1]

An unsourced Findagrave entry gives that he died 6 Oct 1848 and was buried in the Myers Cemetery in McKinley, Washington Co. Indiana.^[5]
