Biography

Born in Middleborough, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay Colony on 4 July 1683, son of John and Lydia (Bartlett) Nelson.[1]

On 22 June 1697, Samuel made the choice of William Shurtloff and Nathaniel Wood to be his guardians.[2]

Samuel married Hannah Ford on 13 December 1704 in Plymouth.[3]

Samuel married his second wife, Bathsheba (Nichols), in Plymouth, on 1 April 1706.[4][5]

Together they had 4 children:

  1. Sarah Nelson
  2. Hannah Nelson
  3. John Nelson
  4. Samuel Nelson

Samuel married his third wife, Sarah Holmes on 12 September 1718 in Plymouth.[6]

Together they had 4 children:

  1. Bathsheba Nelson
  2. Samuel Nelson
  3. Ebenezer Nelson
  4. Patience Nelson


He passed away on April 3, 1758, in Plymouth, Plymouth, Massachusetts Bay.


Probate

The Will of Samuel Nelson of Plymouth, yeoman, was dated 17 June 1754 and proved on 3 April 1758 in Plymouth. He mentions his wife Sarah, his children, Ebenezer Nelson (youngest son), Hannah Dyer, widow of John Dyer, Samuel Nelson (second son), Samuel Nicolas Nelson, John Nelson (eldest son), Sarah Shurtleff, and Bathsheba Holmes, and his grandchildren, Sarah Cobb, Lemuel Morton Nelson, Samuel Nelson, [7]

His inventory was taken on 28 April 1759 in Plymouth.[8]

In 1764, a list of claims and creditors was recorded. His son John Nelson petitioned the court to sell some of the land to pay for the debts.[9]
