Note

The following is taken from the book, "A Small Branch of The NYE FAMILY TREE Descendents of JOHSNN ADAM NEW of Pennsylvania 1749-1970" This book was written by Max B & Evelyn Tunnicliffe after 1970.

William, the second son of Johan Adam and Eve Elizabeth Neu, was born in Germany in 1746 and came to America with his parents and his older brother, Nicholas, in 1749. He was eleven years old when his father received the warrant for 259 acres of land from Thomas and Richard Penn. Growing up on the farm, it is not surprising that he chose farming as his profession which he followed for the rest of his life.

William's marriage to Juliana Fernsler in 1769 is recorded at the Hill Church, near Cleona. A year after his marriage he apparently decided to strike out for himself as the land records in the Lancaster County Court House show that in 1770 William purchased 71 1/2 acres of land from his father which was the southwest corner of his father's original plantation of 259 acres. The price for this property was 143 pounds, payable at the rate of 10 pounds per year beginning in 1773. As far as can be determined William farmed this land until his death, and no record has been found so far as to what happened to the farm after his death, whether it was sold or one of the children continued to farm there.

The church records state that 12 children were born to William and Juliana and that eleven were living at the time of his death in 1804. The records at Hill Church give the baptism of eight of their children and these records plus the 1790 census show twelve children. The 1800 census, however, indicates that one of the daughters had apparently died young. It is unfortunate that the early census records gave only the name of the head of the family, and only the age and sex of the children making it impossible to find names for the last three daughters.

The families were a very closely knit group as is shown by the choice of sponsors for the baptism of their children. In most cases they were "family", numbering among them both sets of grandparents, and the others were brothers and sisters and very close friends.

After William's death no record can be found of Juliana but it is probable that she lived with one of her children.

No death record can be found for Juliana nor has it been possible to find tombstones for either William and Juliana in any of the cemeteries in the area.
