Biography

Archie was born January 2, 1912 at the Low Gap in Scott County, Tennessee. He was the son of William Newport and Sylvania Phillips. He married Emma ( Burchfield ) Henry on May 3, 1958 in Scott County. He passed away on January 29, 1976 at his home in the Mountain View community in Scott County.

Obituary,

Archie W. Newport, 64, of Mtn. View community passed away at his home Thursday evening January 29. He was the son of the late Bill Newport and the late Sylvania Phillips Newport, a member of the Low Gap Baptist Church, a veteran of World War II. Survivors: wife Emma Burchfield Newport of Rt. 1 Robbins, son, Marley Henry of Robbins, daughter, Allie Rich of Elyria, Ohio, two brothers, George Newport of Robbins, E. M. Newport of Helenwood, three grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from the Low Gap Baptist Church 1 p.m. Sunday February 1, with Rev. Carl Jeffers officiating. Burial in the Newport Cemetery, Low Gap. West Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. (Source: The Scott County News, 5 Feb 1976, p4)
