Biography

Emma was born on January 7, 1912 at Cordell in Scott County, Tennessee. She was the daughter of William Robert Burchfield and Mary ( Jeffers ) Burchfield . She married Early Henry on February 17, 1931 in Scott County, after his death in 1947, Emma married Archie Webster Newport on May 3, 1958 in Scott County. She passed away May 31, 1989 at the Oak Ridge Health Care Center, Oak Ridge, Anderson County, Tennessee.

Emma Burchfield Henry Newport, 77, of the Mountain View community, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 1989, at the Oak Ridge Health Care Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, following a lingering illness. She was the daughter of the late William Robert Burchfield and the late Mary Jeffers Burchfield and was also preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Henry; her second husband, Archie W. Newport; two sons: Oakley Henry and infant, Joseph W. Henry; two sisters: Luvana and Allie Burchfield; and four brothers: John Burchfield, George Burchfield, Esau Burchfield, and Ruben Burchfield; and one half-brother, Berry Lloyd. She was a member of the Byrges Creek Baptist Church for some 58 years. Mrs. Newport is survived by one daughter, Allie Lee Rich and husband, Henderson of Elyria, O.; one son, Marley Henry of the Mountain View community; one sister, Anna Buckshorn of Strunk, Ky.; one brother, Harlan Burchfield and wife, Zelphia of Mountain View; three grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews;, including one special niece, Georgia Seeber of Oliver Springs; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, June 3, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Daugherty of Petros, and Rev. Carl Jeffers officiating. The James Lloyd Family and Edwin Jeffers sang. Burial was in the Lone Mountain Cemetery. West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida was in charge of the arrangements.
