George O'Grady was born on November 1, 1874, in Bethnal Green, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom. He was the son of Richard O'Grady, shoe maker, and Sarah Wheeler.[1] George was baptised on 30 May 1879 in St John, Bethnal Green, Tower Hamlets, England.[2]
In the 1881 census George (age 6), scholar, was the son of Richard O'grady at 10 Hunslett St, Bethnal Green, London, England.[3]

George enlisted with the 15th Hussars (service number 2810) in 1891 (age 18). On February 14, 1893 he was granted leave with pay, as well as February 14, 1897. On February 14, 1898 he was transfered to 1st Class A.R. And on January 22, 1900 he was found medically unfit on mobilization, possibly due to rheumatism which he was diagnosed with in 1895 while serving in Dublin.[4]
George married Susan (Harbron) O'Grady, daughter of Frederick Harbron, upholsterer, on Octtober 8, 1894 at the registrar's office in Dublin South, Ireland. Richard Bigsworth and Lizzie Burgar were witnesses.[5] Together Susan and George had 6 children:
In the 1901 census George (age 28), Brushmaker, was the married head of household on Bann Street, Clifton, Antrim, Ireland.[6]
