Biography
Jeremiah Sutton Phelan was born on December 18, 1832 in Missouri, United States, son of Richard Edward Phelan (~1801–~1862) and Hannah Sutton (1806–1874).[1]
In 1850, Jerimiah (17) lived in Prairie Township, Washington, Arkansas, United States. [1] On 18 Oct 1855 in Washington, Arkansas, Jeremiah S. Phelan married Mary Jane Ryan (1836-1905) from Tennessee. [2] The couple had 2 daughters:
Martha Frances Phelan, 11 April 1858–1936
Mary Elizabeth Phelan, 25 November 1858–1901
Jeremiah Sutton Phelan died on May 26, 1862, aged 29, at Alton, Madison, Illinois, USA during the US Civil War where he fought on the Confederate side.[3]
Jeremiah Phelan was buried at the Confederate Cemetery, Alton, Madison County, Illinois, USA. [4]
