Biography

Little is known about the early life of Sarah Skinner. She was the wife of Thomas Skinner as proven by a land deed in North Carolina as well as the will of Thomas Skinner and her tombstone. [1] Thus she made the move with Thomas from North Carolina to Ohio. Later she moved to Indiana with her children after Thomas had died. She died in 1848 and was buried in Skinner Chapel Cemetery in Cass County, Indiana. According to her tombstone she was in the 85th year of her age.

NOTE: Though it cannot be proven, Sarah is most likely the woman age range 70-80 on the 1840 U.S. Census for the State of Indiana, Cass County living with Nathan Skinner (who was her son). In his will, Thomas Skinner had asked that Nathan maintain "a good and decent living and lodging" for her.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Sarah by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Sarah:

It looks like this is a conflict between a strict "documents-only" profile manager and our Data Doctor "suggestion" that WikiTree birth and death dates line up with what is on a person's Find A Grave memorial if it's referenced on the profile. Can we find "common ground" like a Research Notes section that indicates the F.A.G. birth data (the date does correspond to the "in the 85th year..." inscription on the tombstone photo, so it does have some credibility, IMHO) ? Then, the profile manager should change any F.A.G. source references on profiles she manages to the Template where she can add {FindAGrave|23235663|sameas=no} (double the { } marks!) and that will stop the Data Doctors from re-making this "suggestion" over and over.

K., you are correct! But consider that WikiTree's data fields offer 'Certain' and 'Uncertain' status buttons for a reason. You should add estimated DOB, DOD, and locations, and mark them 'Uncertain.' It would be a huge help to searchers for ancestors with the same name but from different centuries or countries to not have to track down each and every blank profile and find (and possibly fill in--this is a wiki, after all) their own estimates! Thanks for considering!

It sounds like a Research Notes section should be added, with an explanation that a valid source has not been found for the birthdate. Including a note that find a grave is not a valid source because there is no documentation to back up the date shown.
Yes, I always remove birth dates that come from Find A Grave when someone posts them on a profile I manage. I am a genealogist and follow strict genealogical standards. I am also a reviewer for the Florida Pioneer Descendants Program. We always tell the applicants that the information on Find A Grave is a secondary source as far as the information on the tombstone is concerned. Nothing else on Find A Grave is acceptable as a source (unless it is a scan of a document). When only a date of death is on the tombstone, and that is not documented, it is not a primary source. Thus you cannot do the math and assume you have the correct birth date. I have visited many cemeteries and have seen many incorrect dates on tombstones to ever try and establish a birth date from a tombstone. Birth dates come from birth certificates (when available) and death dates come from death certificates (when available). A birth date on a death certificate is only a secondary source.

I have proven several families for both First Families of Ohio and First Families of Pennsylvania and this is the standard they use too so it is not only the Florida State Genealogical Society that follows this rule.

I am trying to use good genealogical standards for the profiles I manage on WikiTree. I thought that is what everyone was suppose to do.

Hello, again you are removing birth info every time someone fills it in to match the FAG ID. Please either remove the FAG ID or set birth date to match it.
