Bill Pratley was born in New South Wales, Australia
Bill Pratley is one of twins.

Frederick William Pratley was born on 7th July 1923 in Cabarita, New South Wales, Australia. Bill, as he was known, was the older of twin sons of Frederick Pratley and Rachel Martin. [1] The family lived at 24 Denison Street, Cabarita.

On 25th November 1942, Bill enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force for service during the Second World War. He was posted to the No.20 Operational Training Unit based at Mildura, Victoria, and later to the No.2 Operational Training Unit at Melbourne. [2]

Bill Pratley died in military service at Mildura during the Second World War.

Aged just twenty years, Bill died in service of illness on 27th February 1944 in the Alfred Hospital, Prahran, and is buried in the Springvale War Cemetery, Springvale, Victoria. Frederick William Pratley's name is located at panel 112 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra, and on the Cenotaph at Concord, New South Wales. [3] The Sydney Morning Herald published a notice of death on 1st March: [4]

"PRATLEY.—February 27, 1944, at Alfred Hospital, St. Kilda, Melbourne, F. W. (Bill), beloved son of Frederick James and loving brother of Kathleen (Mrs. W. Pont), Delma (Mrs. J. Hockey), Frank, and Colin, aged 20 years."
