It is highly probable that Jean du Puy never existed, or was not the father (Pierre de Puy) of Bartholomew Dupuy. He is part of a fraudulent pedigree that is fairly accurate from Bartholomew's children on down. I am trying to get an article published in the American Genealogist that goes into detail about the errors in this fraud and will correct this as best I can once I have access to it.

Gabrielles is Not a proper place name in France. If this family existed (Dupuy is a common French surname - like "Jones" - meaning "from the hilltop") they were likely from the village of Cabrières, easily misspelled from hand-written texts, that is a few kilometers from the city of Nimes, in Languedoc-Roussillon. That area was & is still a Huguenot/Protestant region in southern France.
