Mary Magdalene "Magdalene" Ratliff was born on January 10, 1933, in Kimper, Pike County, Kentucky, United States, the daughter of Floyd Ratliff and his wife Flora Ellen Layne.[1]
On 1940, the 7-year-old Magdalene (listed as "Madaline") was living with her family on the family's farm at Hurricane Fork of John's Creek, Pike County. Home at the time were her father; Floyd (58), farmer of his own farm; her mother; Flora (50); and her siblings: 23-year-old Brilla (listed as Gabrilla); 21-year-old Goldie; 18-year-old Delphia; 16-year-old Zack, a farmhand; 14-year-old Bernon, also a farmhand; and 10-year-old Arson.[2]
She married Cleveland West Jr (known as "Junior") as his second wife, on April 3, 1957, in Lebanon County, Virginia, United States.[3] They were to have four children, two daughters, and two sons.
Mary Magdalene "Magdalene" West née Ratliff passed away February 18, 2010, in Pikeville, Pike County, Kentucky, United States,[4] and was interred in the Johnson Memorial Cemetery, Pikeville, where her husband had already been laid to rest.[5] She was survived by her children, a brother (Arson Ratliff), and a sister (Goldie Blackburn née Ratliff), and numerous other extended family.
