Joseph was born in 1826, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada.
His Father's Biography
Benjamin Belcher Reed was born on 26 February 1777 at Horton, Kings Co, NS.1 He was the son of Duncan Reed and Zerusha Post. Benjamin Belcher Reed married 2nd Sarah Rice, daughter of Beriah RiceJr and Meriam (?), circa 1825 at All Saints Anglican Church, Granville, Annapolis Co, NS. A partial extract of the Benjamin Reed entry: "Benj Reed Married for his second wife Sarah Troop Widdow of the late Joseph Troop of Granville and the Daughter of... Rice of Annapolis and had by her Joseph Troop their son Born 17 July 1826. Sarah his Wife departed this life 26 March 1827." It is likely that Sarah was born in Annapolis County and remained there when her father moved to Cape Breton.2 Benjamin Belcher Reed died on 24 April 1860 at Annapolis Royal, Annapolis Co, NS.1
