Edward Alonzo Rhodes was born in February of 1855 or 1856 in Michigan, United States.[1]
On 20 July 1860, five-year-old Edward was living with his parents John and Avilla Rhodes in Thetford, Genesee, Michigan, United States.[2]
Edward has not been located on the 1870 census.
On 18 February 1883, Edward was married to Effie Alexander Hull on in Saginaw, Michigan. Minister William A. Hackne[?] conducted the ceremony, which was witnessed by Williard F. Mack and Harry Broomhead. At the time of the ceremony, Edward was a railroad conductor. [3] Their daughter was Alice Catherine (Rhodes) Johnson.
On 13 June 1900, Edward and Effie Rhodes and their children Eugene D., Leon L. Effie E., Esther A., Fannie S., and Alice M. lived in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Edward worked as a railroad brakeman.[4]
On 1 June 1905, E. A. and Effie Rhodes lived at 610 16th Avenue in Minneapolis with their children Eugene A., Leon L., Effie L., Esther A., Fannie J., Alice K., and June W. he was working as a conductor. Edward was a railroad conductor, Eugene was an engineer, and Leon was a locomotive fireman. [5]
Edward completed a form for the Northern Pacific Railway Company in 1909. He noted that his mother was Mrs. Eugene Embury of Fenton, Michigan- a key clue that allowed her to be identified. He was 52-years-old, 5 ft 11 inches tall, weighed 160 pounds, had brown hair, and blue eyes. The form provides a detailed list of his railroad employment with the company, which began in April 1882.Multiple censuses indicate that Edward A. Rhodes worked for the railroad. In 1905, he was working as a conductor; his obituary indicates that he worked for the Northern Pacific Railway. [6]
On 15 April 1910, Edward A. and Effie Rhodes and their children Leon, Esther, Fannie, Alice, June, and Maynard lived at 1110 Plymouth Avenue in Minneapolis. Edward was a railroad conductor while son Leon was a locomotive engineer.[7]
On 7 January 1920, Edward A. and Effie Rhodes and their children Esther A., June D., and Maynard L. lived at 1110 Plymouth Avenue in Minneapolis. They owned their home. Edward was a railroad conductor.[8]
On 16 April 1930, Edward A. and Effie Rhodes and their children Ester and Maynard lived at 1110 Plymouth Avenue in Minneapolis. They owned their home, valued at $6,000, and had a radio. Edward was no longer working. Esther was a court reporter and Maynard was a railway fireman.[9]
On 11 April 1940, Edward and Effie and their daughter Esther lived at 1110 Plymouth Avenue in Minneapolis.[10]
Edward died in 1946 in Ramsey County, Minnesota.[11] His death record gives his place of birth as Flint, Michigan.
Edward's grave marker is in Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota and his birth year on the marker is 1855.[12]
