Biography

Jean Richard is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque7-Left, La Bergere. Listed with him is his wife Margueritte Landry and their son Jean Pierre.[1]

Jean Pierre was born in 1770 in France. He was the son of Acadians Jean Richard and Marguerite Landry. [2]

Four of Jean's siblings died very young. Only the last born child, this boy, reached adulthood, married, and had children. In 1763 the Acadians detained in England were finally released and repatriated to France. In May 1763 they boarded the ship L'Ambition which took them to Saint-Malo, France where Jean Pierre was born. Jean and Marguerite were recorded in Saint-Malo in 1772.

They immigrated to Louisiana in 1785. [3]

Jean married on 18 September 1798 in Assumption, Louisiana (present-day Plattenville) to Elisabeth "Isabelle" Jeanne Isabelle AUCOIN. [4]

He passed away before 1850; his widow is listed on the 1850 census of Assumption Parish, LA.[5]
