Biography

William married Mary Elizabeth Mathew (born about 1787; daughter of Daniel Byam Mathew and Elizabeth (Dering) Mathew) on 11 April 1815 on Saint Marylebone: Marylebone Road, Westminster, England.[1]

As part of the marriage settlement his father-in-law Daniel Byam Mathew (1756-1838) in 1815 placed the North Sound estate, Antigua in trust. The trustees sold the estate the following year. This was a plantation with about 135 enslaved people[2].

He passed away in 1834, according to the monumental inscription of Daniel Byam Mathew (1756-1838), his father in law. The monumental Inscription in St Peter's church, St Christopher (St Kitts) states
Sacred to the memory of Daniel Byam Mathew Esq., of Cavon and Pennitenny, in this island who departed this life April 26 AD 1838 aetatis suae 82. Son of Daniel Mathew of Felix Hall, in Essex, Esq., & grandson of General Mathew, Governor of the Leeward Islands. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Edward Dering of Surrenden-Dering in Kent Bart., by whom he had issue Daniel Dering and Mary Elizabeth, who married William Thomas Roe Esq., Commissioner of the Customs, also High Steward of the Savoy &c &c &c,. who died April 25 AD 1834. This tablet is erected to his memory by his only daughter, the above Mary Elizabeth Roe of Withdran, in the county of Sussex, and his sister Louisa widow of the RT Honble. James Lord Gambier (1756-1833) of Ivon Grove in the county of Bucks, Admiral of the fleet, who died April 19, AD 1833 [3]

He died on 25th April 1834, according to the Monumental inscription from All Saints Churchyard, Patcham, Brighton,
