Biography

Johann Peter Romoser was born 24 Jun 1726[1][2], probably to Johann Daniel Romoser and Anna Barbara Wilprett in Herrenalb, Herzogtum Württemberg or nearby Kullenmühle. (see Research Notes below)

On 6 Jan 1749 Peter married Maria Agnes Ebner, presumably in Kullenmühle or the parish seat of Herrenalb.[1] They had at least 6 children: Christoph Eberhardt[1], Johann Christoph[3], Susanna Elisabetha[4], Georg Eberhard[5], Christina Sÿbilla[6], and Philipp Peter[7].

In all of his children's baptism records, Peter is described as a sawyer "auf der Kullenmühl."[3]

Maria Agnes died 17 Sep 1760 following a fall in the 9th month of her pregnancy.[8] A few months later, on 21 Apr 1761, Peter married Anna Maria Schaiblin of Kullenmühle in Herrenalb.[9]

Peter died 16 Feb 1783, age 56y 7m 22d, presumably in Kullenmühle, and was buried 18 Feb 1783 presumably in Herrenalb, where his death and burial are recorded.[2]

Research Notes

Parents

The Herrenalb/Kullenmühle evangelical church records only go back to about 1750. At that time, information about the families currently living in the parish was collected to create family registers. The family register page which gives information about Peter's wife Maria Agnes Ebner and her parents/grandparents says that Peter's parents are given on page 10.[1] Page 10 has Johann Daniel Romoser, d. 1743 and wife Maria Barbara Wilprett of Wildbad, followed by one child, Friederich Daniel b. 6 Jan 1711.[10] Presumably, then, Peter's parents are also Johann Daniel & Maria Barbara, as Friederich is not old enough to be Peter's father.

The Wildbad church records have an Anna Barbara, widow of Johann Daniel Romoser of Herrenalb who d. 12 Nov 1750, age 71. The record further says that 7 years ago, following the death of her husband, she moved to Wildbad to live with her daughter's husband.[11] The Herrenalb family register recorded 1750 has Johann Daniel dying in 1743, but calls his wife Maria Barbara 'of Wildbad'.[10] Nevertheless, I believe this record is for the mother of Friedrich Daniel Romoser born 1711 according to the family register.

Amongst the Wildbad baptismal records, there are 2 candidates for Anna/Maria Barbara Wilprett - Anna Barbara b. 28 Oct 1679, daughter of Johann Peter & Eva Maria Wildbrett[12], and Anna Maria Barbara, b. 17 Oct 1688 to Hanß Michäel & Margaretha Wildprett[13]. The first is consistent with the death record for Johann Daniel Romoser's widow. The later Anna Maria Barbara appears to marry someone named Ulrich in Wildbad 1705[14] - the entry is faded and very difficult to read. I did not spot Anna Barbara b. 1679 or Johann Daniel in the Wildbad marriage records 1695-1710, so presumably they married in Herrenalb.

Anna Barbara's birth in 1679 would make her 47 years old when Johann Peter Romoser was born, which is unusual but not impossible.

If Johann Daniel Romoser and Anna Barbara Wilprett are John Peter Romoser's parents, then they are the common ancestors of Georg Friedrich Romoser and Elisabetha Romoser who married in Dobel 1823 and emigrated to the United States in 1829, being Georg Friedrich's great-grandparents and Elisabetha's great-great-grandparents.

Birthplace

The Kull family of Kullenmühle register which gives Peter's first marriage to Maria Agnes Ebner[1] and his birth date does not call him "of" anywhere, so by 1750 he is "of Kullenmühle." This is how he is refered to in later records. The family register of his presumed parents and brother[10] is in the Herrenalb section and Anna Barabara is called the widow of Johann Daniel Romoser "of Herrenalb."[11] This would suggest Peter was born in Herrenalb and moved the mile to Kullenmühle when he was old enough to work.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:
