John T. Rood of Williamstown, Vermont, married Mahala Whitney in Williamstown, Vermont, on 16 October 1827. The marriage officiant was pastor Joel Davis.[2]
The 1850 U.S. Census recorded John T. Rood, a farmer, and Mahala Rood, both age 50, in Roxbury, Washington County, Vermont. Others in the household were Lemuel Rood, 18, a laborer; Lucinda Rood, 14; and Charles Rood, 9. All were born in Vermont. John T. Rood reported $1200 in real estate.[3]
The 1880 U.S. Census recorded John T. Rood, age 80, a widower, farmer by occupation, in Roxbury, Washington County, Vermont, in the household of his son, Lemuel Rood, age 49 and a farmer. Others in the household were Lemuel's wife Eliza A. Rood, age 35, and their son S. Edward Rood, age 11. All were born in Vermont; the birthplaces of John T. Rood's parents were not indicated.[4]
John T. Rood died in Bethel, Vermont, on 24 October 1883, at the reported age of 83 years, 2 months, and 14 days. The record indicates his place of birth as Brookfield, Vermont. Death was attributed to old age.[5]
