Elsa Sofie Ulrika Rosenius was a Svenska artist and illustrator.
She was born February 15, 1873 in Stockholm, Sverige; the daughter of Carl David Rosenius and his wife Hulda Mathilda Ulrika (Ohman) Rosenius.[1]
She was first employed at Stockholm University as an illustrator of scientific work.[2]
As a single woman, age 45, a teacher, she immigrated to the U. S. with her final destination being Peking, China. Her father, David Rosenius accompanied her. They were aboard the "Bergensfjord" from Kristiania, Norway on June 6,1918 to Ellis Island, New York City, New York, United States. [3]In China she assisted archeologist Johan Gunnar Andersson and participated in his excavations in China.[2][4]
She married Johan Gunnar Andersson on April 16, 1923; who lived from 1874 to 1960. In 1925 she returned to Sverige from China. She was divorced from Andersson on February 20, 1935 and did not remarry.[2]
Elsa Sofia Ulrika Rosenius-Andersson died December 30, 1961 in Stockholm and was buried at Norra begravningsplatsen in Solna.[2]
A collection of 84 pictures from China and Mongolia are in the East Asian Museum in Stockholm. They were taken by Elsa Rosenius-Andersson in the 1920s.[2]
