Biography

Genealogically Defined

Jane was born on the 6th August 1859 at 11 Hammonds Row, Dartford, Kent. Daughter of William Rufus & Rebecca Rufus formerly Saunders. Father's occupation: Iron Moulder. [1]


On the 25th October 1879, Jane was a witness at the marriage of her sister Mary Rufus to Pierce Byrne at St. Peter, Catholic Church Woolwich, Kent, England. [2] .

On the 24th July 1884, Jane married James Henry Mitchell at St. Nicholas, Plumstead, Kent, England. James Henry Mitchell, 27, bachelor, Sergeant R. A. (Royal Artillery) of Rincurran, Kinsale, Ireland, son of John Mitchell (Pensioner) & Jane Rufus, 24, spinster, of Plumstead, daughter of William Rufus (Iron Founder). Witnessed by William Rufus & Alice Rufus[3].

She died aged 81 years, on the 21st August 1940 at 112 Hengist Road, Erith, Kent, the widow of James Henry Mitchell, carpenter (Journeyman). Informant: E.M. Parkinson, present at death [4]
