In 1663/1664, only 15 years after the end of the Thirty Years War, the Habsburg Monarchy under the rule of Emperor Leopold I found itself embroiled in the Austro-Turkish War (Türkenkrieg).[4] This conflict arose due to tensions in Transylvania and escalated when the Ottoman Grand Vizier Köprülü Fazıl Ahmed Paşa invaded Habsburg territories.[4] To support the war effort, additional taxes were imposed on the subjects, including those in Wallenhorst, which was then under the administration of Prince-Bishop Ernst August von Braunschweig-Lüneburg. Therefore, a Hebungsregister was created to list all individuals and the amounts they were required to pay, and in 1663 Ludike Rotger was mentioned in the Hebungsregister des Türkenschatzes, having to pay 2 Thlr, 5 ß.[5]
