Biography

Ruth was born 18 Jul 1908 in Camillus, Onondaga County, New York.^[1] She was the daughter of Guy Sands and Florence Burk.^[2]

In 1910 she was living on the farm on Sands Road in Camillus.^[3] The household included Guy W Sands age 37, his wife Florence Sands age 37, son Warren Sands age 11, daughter Marian Sands age 4, daughter Ruth Sands age 2, mother Mrs. Jane Sands age 79, and hired man Michael Hare age 48. She was living with her parents and siblings in Camillus in 1915.^[4]

In 1920 in Camillus^[5] The household included Guy Sands age 47, his wife Florence Sands age 46, son Warren B Sands age 20, daughter Marian J Sands age 18, daughter Ruth Sands age 12, son George Sands age 9, son Edwin Sands age 8, and son Albert Sands age 6. Marian was working in a rope factory. Ruth, George, Edwin and Albert were attending school.

In 1925^[6] the household included Guy W Sands age 52, his wife Florence A Sands age 52, son Warren B Sands age 26, daughter Ruth F Sands age 17, son George Sands age 15, son Edwin Sands age 13, and son Albert Sands age 11. Guy and Warren were farming. Ruth, George, Edwin and Albert were attending school.

In 1928 she was working as a clerk at 112 W. Genesee Street in Syracuse and living in Warners (Camillus).^[7] In 1929 she was working as an auditor on Erie Blvd West in Syracuse and living in Camillus.^[8]

She married Clarence Forsythe 13 Jan 1930 in Onondaga County, New York.^[9] He was the son of Frank Forsythe and Jessie Bishop, and was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

In 1930 she was living at 1410 West Onondaga Street, Syracuse, New York.^[10] The household included Clarence Forsythe age 28 born in Canada and his wife Ruth Forsythe age 22 born in New York. Clarence immigrated in 1928 and was working as a salesman in a dry goods store. Ruth was working as a bookkeeper in the new railroad office.

By 1935 they had moved to Marion Ave in Fairmount in the town of Camillus, Onondaga County, New York where they were living in 1940.^[11] Clarence age 37 was a department store salesman and Ruth age 32 listed no occupation.

He died in April 1955.^[12]

In the 1950s she enjoyed spending time at her sister Marian's camp on Oneida Lake, and liked to lay in the sun.^[13]

She married Barney William Raaf April 1959 in Martin County, Florida.^[14]

She died in May 1963 in Palm Beach, Florida.^[15]

She is buried in an unmarked grave in SECTION C, LOT 47: BURK/BARKER of Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordan, Onondaga County, New York.^[16] Her grave is between Giles O Burk, her grandfather, and Clarence Forsythe, also in an unmarked grave.
