Biography

Sarah was born in the colony on 10th Nov 1838 (BC V742-22), the daughter of currency lad James Smith and Susannah Bellamy. She married Edward Gallard at St. Anne's Ryde on 26 July 1859, and subsequently bore Edward five sons and seven daughters. Three of the children were born in Pennant Hills where Edward went to work for five years from about 1867 to 1872. Sarah died on 19 May 1919.

Neil Smith

Granny Gallard (Sarah Smith) is remembered by her grandaughters for the little white drawstring bags she made for them. They also recall her wearing long dark dresses and a little bonnet. She had beautiful crochet pieces all over the furniture in her house.
