Biography

GENEALOGICAL NOTE: Do not confuse this man with his cousin, David Snow, born 28 July 1760 in the neighboring Eastham, Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay, to David Snow (1711-1776) and Priscilla (Sparrow) Snow (1722-1805). Both were descendants of Nicholas Snow and Mayflower passenger, Constance (Hopkins) Snow of Plymouth Colony, New England. [1]

David Snow Jr. was the son of Capt. David Snow Sr. and his wife Hannah (Collins) Snow. He was born at the tip of Cape Cod: in Truro, Barnstable County, in the English province of Massachusetts Bay, on 6 August 1760; he died in Truro, Massachusetts, USA, in 1813. From the time he was just a child, David Snow Jr., was a sailor. He lived as much on the Atlantic Ocean as on dry land. Eventually he became a vessel master, earning the title "Captain" David Snow.

On October 10, 1786, following the American Revolution, David Snow Jr. married a cousin, Elizabeth "Betty" Snow, b. July 25, 1763, in Truro. She was the daughter of Captain Ambrose Snow and his wife Hannah (Rich) Snow. The couple had at least one son: [2]

  1. Ambrose Snow (1788-1859), b: 3 Jun 1788 in Truro, Barnstable Co., Mass.; m. Elizabeth (Betsy) Scull in Truro in 1810.

No other children have been found for David & Elizabeth Snow in Truro's Vital Records.

David Snow Jr. died on November 23, 1813, in Truro, Massachusetts, USA. His wife survived him. She died June 15, 1830, in Truro, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. [3] They are buried in the Truro Congregational Church cemetery.
