Campton/Kempton of Cookstown area

This page is to summarize WikiTree research on people of surname Campton or Kempton from Cookstown, County Tyrone, Ireland; and nearby locations.

Unfortunately, these two spelling variants seem to be used interchangeably in civil records and newspapers, with little consistency.

Searching profiles

WikiTree currently does not recognize them as variants of the same name, so if using the Find function you will have to search twice, once for each variant. I have tried to manually mark individual profiles with both names but don't always remember.

Profiles can be searched from the Search page , put Campton or Kempton in the Surname field; and Tyrone or Londonderry in the Birth Keywords. It is also possible to use WikiTree+ Search to find profiles associated with county at any stage of their life.

Profile heads

Profiles without parents identified. This is not an exhaustive list; use the search function as above to find more.

Other interesting notes

There were two "Andrew D. Campton":

There was also Andrew Campton (1888-) of Toberlane.

Profiles with newspaper obituaries listing family

There may be other profiles not in this list -- I only started it recently and searching for profiles with obituaries may have missed some that I compiled previously:

"cousin" could be used vaguely in these obituaries. It included cousins of spouses and via step-relationships; as well as 1C1R and sometimes even 2C.

Resources

Resources used include but not limited to:

Resources not used:

  • Presbyterian parish registers and records, PRONI Microfilm. I live far away and cannot access these. In particular: Claggan Presbyterian and 1st Cookstown Presbyterian will be useful.
  • Genealogy of William Crooks and of his wife Annie Weir will undoubtedly cover these families. Exists in print form in a Belfast library.
