William Roswell "Ross" Spencer was born on May 9, 1910 in Payson, Adams County, Illinois, USA. He passed away on May 23, 2003 in Centralia, Boone County, Missouri, USA.

Obituary: William Roswell "Ross" Spencer, 93, Mexico, Mo., died May 23, 2003, at Heritage Hall Nursing Center, Centralia. Born May 9, 1910, in Payson, Ill., a son of Samuel Glenn and Esther Abbott Spencer. He married Ina May Hull, May 5, 1939, in St. Louis, She survives. Mr. Spencer was a graduate of Payson High School, Payson, Ill. Survivors include one son, James L. Spencer and wife, Darlene, Mexico; one brother, Glenn A. Spencer, Quincy; one sister, Glenna Udre, Troy; three grandchildren, Nicole Santrizos, Charleston, S.C., Sloane Rogers, Everett, Wash., and Heath Spencer, Mexico; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark Spencer. Visitation was held Sunday, May 25, at Pickering Funeral Home, Mexico, Mo., until the time of services. Graveside services were conducted at Elmwood Cemetery, with Rev. Dale Stone officiating. Memorials may be made to Mexico United Methodist Church c/o Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, Mo. 65265.

William Roswell "Ross" Spencer was a longtime farmer in Illinois and Missouri. Ross was born 9 May 1916[1][2] in Payson, Illinois. He was the son of S. Glenn Spencer and Esther Abbott.

A graduate of Payson High School,[3] Ross lived on the home farm until his father died and his son had finished high school. He then moved the family to Missouri and bought a farm there too.[4]

Like his father, Ross was an excellent farmer. He believed in soil conservation and crop rotation and good example to others that the practices can improve one's land and crops.[5]

Ross and Ina earned an award from the University of Missouri for outstanding work in the community and state.[6]

He passed away in 2003.
