Biography

Birth and Baptism
John, the son of John Stamp and his wife(?) Hellen, was born at Broughton, Lincolnshire, in 1777 and baptized at St Mary's church, Broughton, on 11 March 1777.^[1][2]

Marriage
John married Frances Daniel by banns at St Mary's church, South Kelsey, Lincolnshire, on 27 November 1804. John was described as a Bachelor of this Parish. Witnesses were George Pease and Elizabeth Hitchingman.^[3][4]

Children
John and Frances had children:

1. Elizabeth, born about 1806.
2. Ann, born at South Kelsey in 1807 and baptized at St Mary's church, South Kelsey, on 1 November 1807.^[5][6]
3. Thomas, born at South Kelsey in 1808 and baptized at St Mary's church, South Kelsey, on 11 July 1808.^[7][8]
4. Maria, born at South Kelsey in 1810 and baptized at All Saints church, South Kelsey, on 18 January 1810.^[9][10]
5. Sarah, born at South Kelsey in 1812 and baptized at St Mary's church, South Kelsey, on 26 April 1812.^[11][12]

The 6 June 1841 census records John living with his wife Frances, children Jane and William, and grandchildren George and Ellen, at South Kelsey.^[25]

Wife's Death and Burial
John's wife Frances died at South Kelsey on 17 February 1846^[26][27] and was buried at South Kelsey on 22 March 1846.^[28][29]

1851 Census
The 30 March census records John, a widower, living at South Kelsey, with his daughter Jane, acting as his housekeeper, and granddaughter Ellen Johnson Stamp.^[30]

Death and Burial
John died at South Kelsey in 1858^[31] and was buried at South Kelsey on 18 April 1858.^[32][33]

Research Notes

There are two problems with the connections for John, assuming this John is retained as the husband of Frances Daniel:

1. The daughter Jane Stamp, who married Nathaniel Cliffe, is not the daughter of this John. That Jane was, according to her census records, born at sea in the Irish Sea / Channel. Furthermore, john had a daughter Jane born at South Kelsey in 1816, who is living with her father in the 1851 census.
2. This John is not the son of William and Mary. William and Mary had a son John, who did not marry, who lived at North Kelsey. The John of this profile was baptized at Broughton by Brigg in 1777, son of John and Ellen, and lived at South Kelsey.

Update: I have now unlinked this John as the son of William and Mary. Over the next few days I will be updating this profile, adding sources, and children, as appropriate. When I get to John's daughter Jane, I will be unlinking the existing Jane, and then adding a new one.
