Research Notes
1841 Census
The John Hill in the 1841 census had been recently widowed. His wife Elizabeth, née Stamp, who he had married at Thornton Curtis in 1834,[15] had died on 28 December 1840.[16]
Elizabeth's age at death was given at 35,[17] giving a calculated birth date of 1805. Looking at the baptism dates for children of John and Frances, Ann' siblings, there is a gap which such a birth would nicely fill. However, there is also an Elizabeth Stamp, daughter of Richard Stamp and his wife Frances, née Bywater, baptized at Keelby in 1806.[18] This would also be a good candidate.
1851 Census
Ann is still with the same family in 1851 that she was in 1841. Now her relationship with John Hill is given as sister-in-law. This confirms the John Hill had married Ann's sister Elizabeth.
Death and Burial
Ann's probate record states that she died on 29 September 1871. However, her burial record states she was buried on 25 September 1871. Her death registration is in the 4th quarter of the year. To determine what the correct dates are I have ordered her death certificate.
The death certificate gives the date of death as 22 September 1871. This agrees with the burial date of 25 September 1871, confirming that the probate record is in error.
