Biography

Birth and Baptism
Elizabeth, the daughter of Richard Stamp and his wife Mary, née Twidale, who had been married at Burton upon Stather, Lincolnshire, on 20 May 1806,[1][2] was born at Horkstow in 1810 and baptized at St Maurice' church, Horkstow, on 23 September 1810.[3][4]

Marriage
Elizabeth married George Enderby Ling by banns at St Maurice' church, Horkstow, on 12 September 1833. Elizabeth was described as a Spinster of this Parish. Witnesses were John Slight and John Stephenson Wrack.[5][6]

Children
Elizabeth and George Enderby had just one child:

  1. John, born at Horkstow on 31 March 1834 and baptized at St Maurice' church, Horkstow, on 27 April 1834.[7][8]

Husband's Crime & Punishment
Elizabeth's husband George stole two heifers from Wrawby on 16 November 1833. He was arrested, and subsequently, on 10 March 1834, tried, found guilty, and sentenced to transportation for life.[9] He arrived in New South Wales, Australia on 26 October 1834.[10]

1841 Census
The 6 June 1841 census records Elizabeth living at Bunkers Hill, Horkstow, with her son John, in the home of her widowed mother Mary. Her nephew Isaac Stamp is also with the family.[11]

The 30 March 1851 census records Elizabeth, a Widow, still living at Bunkers Hill, Horkstow, with her son John.[12]

Husband's Death
Elizabeth's husband George died at Parramatta, New South Wales, on 6 March 1855.[13][14]

Second Marriage
Six months later Elizabeth remarried to widower John Wilson Drury at St Andrew's church, Bonby, Lincolnshire, on 21 October 1855. Elizabeth was described at a Widow, of full age, resident at Bonby, daughter of Richard Stamp, a Labourer. Witnesses were Elisha Walker and John Green.[15][16][17]

Elizabeth and John did not have any children together.

1861 Census
The 7 April 1861 census records Elizabeth living with her husband John, and stepson James, at Bonby.[18]

Elizabeth died at Saxby All Saints in February 1884[21] and was buried at Saxby All Saints on 21 February 1884.[22]
