Biography
Nellie Stoddart was born on 16 December 1881. She was the daughter of James Stoddart and Susannah Hale.
At the age of 24 she married 29 year old Herbert Varty on 28 May 1906 in Chapel St, Wesleyan Church at Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa. [1]
They went on to have six children. Sadly her youngest son Herbert Rex Boyd Varty was killed in the 2nd World War on 22 February 1941.
Nellie was living with her husband at 1 Russel Avenue, Pietermaritzburg when she passed away on 10 July 1962[2]. Cause of death was recorded as Broncho Pneumonia.
She was buried at Mountain Rise Cemetery, Pietermaritzburg, uMgungundlovu District Municipality, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa[3].
