Hannah was born in 1773, the eleventh of twelve children and the fifth of six daughters of William Stober/Stover. She was the daughter of his second wife, Eva Elizabetha Süss Stover-- he had had two sons and one daughter by his first wife, the older sister of Hannah's mother.[1]
While she was still in her teens, she married John Landis, the grandson of Henry Landis, an early convert to the German Baptist Brethren faith,[2] and bore him eight known children
