Biography

Sarah Stroud was born about 1790 in North Carolina. Her parents were Peter Stroud and Margaret Curtis. Sarah married Joseph Garrett on 8 Sept 1810 in Burke County, North Carolina.[1] She died in about 1860 and is buried at Pisgah Church of Christ Cemetery in Ellijay, Gilmer County, Georgia.[2]

1834 Probate records for Peter Stroud in Burke, North Carolina. List of Property Sold on 27 Mar 1834 includes the following; Joseph Garrett, Peter Stroud, John Stroud, Robt Stroud, James Stroud, W. M. Stroud, Jacob Curtis, Raburn Mashburn, Joshua Curtis, Margaret Stroud, and Dillia Garrett among others. On 19 Aug 1837 James Stroud and James Mashburn administrators of the estate of Peter Stroud dec'd.[3]

21 Mar 1835 Deed - McDowell County, North Carolina. Joseph Garrett of Burke County NC to James Stroud and Gardner Stearns... on waters of Mudy (sic) Creek all joining formerly belonging to Peter Stroud dec'd falling to Jos Garrett in right of his wife by her being one of the legal heirs of Peter Stroud dec'd it being his share of tract of land laying on both sides of the North Fork of Mudy Creek... line between James Bradshaw and William Garrett... part of tract granted by the state to Jesse Stroud... signed Joseph Garrett and Sarah Garrett (by marks). Witnessed; Zackariah Hawkins; Thos Green. Executed 23 Mar 1835. Described 2 tracts of land; 274 & 500 acres.[4]

On 1850 Census, she and Joseph were living with their son John in Union County, Georgia.[5] Dwelling and family #763.
