Biography

Alice Etta Sunday was born on 5 Jan 1854 in Potter Township, Centre, Pennsylvania, United States, daughter of Andrew Sunday (1822 - 1888) and Mary Ann (Fultz) Sunday (~1822 - ~1888).

Her siblings were:

  1. Mary Angeline (Sunday) Treaster (1843 - 1887)
  2. Frances Sunday (1845 - )
  3. Francis Edmond Sunday (1846 - 1933)
  4. Pricilla Agnes (Sunday) Markel (1848 - 1914)
  5. Ellen Elizabeth (Sunday) Miller (1850 - 1922)
  6. Amelia Elmira (Sunday) Frazier (1852 - 1935)
  7. George Henry Sunday (~1859 - 1924)
  8. John Sylvanus Sunday (1859 - 1921)
  9. Daniel Webster Sunday (1861 - 1926)
  10. Charles Vanvalzah Sunday (1865 - 1951)

When she was sixteen, she was living in the Daniel Wheeland household in Pine Grove Mills, working about the house.[1]

Alice married Emanuel S Wagner (1850 - 1918) in about 1875 in Centre County, Pennsylvania.[2] They had the following children:

  1. Willis Andrew Wagner (1874 - 1937)
  2. James Edwin Wagner (1876 - 1969)
  3. Edna Mary (Wagner) Neibarger (1879 - 1949)
  4. Pearl Irene (Wagner) Verbunker (1892 - 1966)

By 1880, the family had left Pennsylvania for Michigan, settling first on a farm in Colon Township, St. Joseph County.[3]

In 1900, they were living in Bangor, Van Buren, Michigan with Willis, their eldest son; Pearl, their youngest daughter, and a grandson Jesse. Willis was working as a farm laborer, presumably on the family farm. Alice indicated that she had given birth to five children, four of whom were still living.[2]

Something happened, during the next ten years, for the 1910 census shows Alice as a widow living with her eldest son in Coldwater, Michigan,[4] while her husband was living with his brother in Pennsylvania—and claiming to be a widower.[5]

Alice remained with her son in Michigan for the rest of her life. In 1920 and 1930, they lived in Grand Rapids, where he worked at a furniture factory.[6][7]

Alice died on 22 Nov 1931 in Grand Rapids, Kent, Michigan, USA aged 77.[8] She was interred there in the Woodlawn Cemetery.[9]
