Biography
Laura married Jean Mandé on 21 Jan 1891. Her husband, Jean Mandé, died at sea in September of that year when his fishing vessel "Georginie" sank. Her son, Jean Edouard, was born 2 months later on 11 Nov 1891. As a single mother in those times, Laura was unable to care for her son on her own. She decided to move to New Jersey and she left Jean Edouard to be raised by her sister Pauline (Theriault) Guedry (husband Jean) who lived in Lower Saulnierville. Jean Edouard kept the Surette name and was the only Surette living in Clare at that time. Laura met a Dutch man in New Jersey and they had a daughter Violet.
