Pierre Thibodeau was born about 1744 in Acadie (86 years old in 1830). His parents were Michel Thibodeau and Anne Marie Richard.
In 1752 his parents were recorded on the census at Chipoudie with 3 boys and 4 girls. In 1755 they appeared again on a census in Chipoudie with 5 boys and 3 girls. [1]
Young Pierre and his family experienced many hardships and displacements during the Grand Dérangement.
In 1755 his father Michel was deported to South Carolina without his family. During that time his mother with her children possibly sought refuge on Ile Saint-Jean (Prince Edward Island). [1] His father managed to make his way to Canada, Nouvelle-France with eight other Acadian men who were deported alone. According to historian André-Carl Vachon, they travelled by canoe up the Potomac, stopping at Fort Duquesne, and arrived in Montreal on 6 August 1756. [2]
The Thibodeau children managed to escape deportation and reached Québec City at the end of October 1757 or beginning of November of that year, aboard one of two ships that had departed from Ile Saint-Jean. Among the passengers were the brothers Joseph, Pierre, Germain and Jean, as well as their cousins Marie-Elisabeth Thibodeau (daughter of Joseph Thibodeau deported to South Carolina and Anne-Marie Savoie), Marie Thibodeau and David Thibodeau. [2] André-Carl Vachon does not list their mother among the passengers therefore she possibly died before October 1757. However she was not listed as deceased when their eight-year-old son Jean died in Québec City in December 1757 but was noted as deceased on son Joseph's burial record dated 9 May 1760. His father remarried in January 1763.
Pierre married Marie-Josephe Proteau on August 01, 1768 in Ste-Marie de Beauce, Province of Quebec.[3]
He married Angélique Rousseau on October 28, 1816 in Ste-Marie de Beauce. [4]
He passed away May 31, 1830, Ste-Marie-de-Beauce, Quebec, Canada [5]
Michel Thibodeau (Michel DGFA # 5) married to Anne-Marie Richard (Alexandre #5) in 1729 in Grand-Pré. On 1752 census in Chipoudie 3 boys 4 girls. On 1755 census in Chipoudie 5 boys 3 girls. Michel was deported to South Carolina without his family in 1755. His wife and children possibly sought refuge on Ile Saint-Jean (Prince Edward Island). By December 1757 they were in Québec City. The family settled in Saint-Marie-de-Beauce and l'Islet.
