Biography
Tryntje Thijssen was born in about 1605 on the island of Nordstrand, located off the coast of Schleswig-Holstein, then part of Denmark. She may have been the daughter of Thys Cornelisz and Volcken Laurens. She married Pieter Carstensen, another native of Nordstrand, in Amsterdam, Holland, in 1623. Their intentions to marry were dated February 18, 1623.[1] [2] They had ten children before her death, which occurred some time after the birth of the last child, in March 1647. After her death, Pieter married Geesje Jans (daughter of Jan Doets) as his second wife in Amsterdam in 1654.[3] They had two children, Tryntje Pieters, born 1654, and Pieter Pietersen (later Ostrander), born 1657.[4]
