Martha Thomas was born in 1829 the daughter of Thomas and Sophia Thomas. Martha was born in the old parish of St Dogwells, Halfway between Haverfordwest and Fishguard. Martha can be found on the 1841 census living at the family home in St Dogwells. We next find Martha, when she married James Davies in 1850 at Nolton parish church. James and Martha had seven children, these are Sophia (b 1851) at St Dogwells, Ann (b 1856) Louisa (b 1861) Caroline (b 1862) Thomas (b 1866) Mary L (b 1869) and Elizabeth (b 1870). Ann, Louisa, and Caroline, were born in Roch, whilst Thomas, Mary, and Elizabeth were born in Nolton. The couple lived in St Dogwells for a short time, just long enough for their first child Sophia to be born. The couple then moved to Nolton, then Roch. And can be found there up to 1871, and then the trail goes cold. They are not found on the 1891 census, and as yet I have not researched the 1881 census for the area. They do not turn up on the 1891 census, and as yet I have not found a burial. I know that Martha’s parents are buried at Camrose Baptist Chapel. So there is a chance that James and Martha are buried there. If anyone has any information regarding Martha or James, please get in touch, or update their profiles. Written by Keith Rees 2016
