Biography

1856 Alexander Jakob Toffler (Hebrew name = Yakov ben reb Avraham Toffler) was born in Péchiújfalu (now Pečovská Nová Ves) Hungary in 1856 to Abraham and Dora Toffler,[1]

1882 Alexander Jakob Toffler immigrated to the US. He married Mary Toffler in New York City on 26 Mar 1882. Mary was also born in Hungary to Salomon (or Samuel) Toffler and Doris Krendel Hirtenstein.[2][3][4]

On 25 Dec 1882, almost exactly nine months later, the couple had a son Adolph Toffler.[5][6]

1884 Alexander and Mary had a baby girl two years later on 09 Nov 1884 in New York City. They named her Kathy Toffler.[7]

1886 In October 1886 Alexander served as a witness to his brother Max's naturalization application in New York City.[8]

Then on 19 Dec 1886 a third child was born, also in New York City. The birth record does not list the gender of this child but the name is Lui, probably Louis, Toffler.[9]

1890 By 1890, Alexander and his family had relocated to Leavenworth, Kansas where he operated a second hand store on South Seventh Street. In July 1890 Alexander was arrested for buying and receiving stolen goods. See newspaper article on Images tab.

Obituary[10]

DEATH OF ALEXANDER TOFFLER
Well known merchant died at home Sunday morning.
Alexander Toffler, a well known Jewish merchant, died Sunday morning at his home, No. 720 Shawnee Street, where he had resided for more than twenty years. The deceased had long been suffering with kidney disease which was the cause of his death.
Alexander Toffler was born in the Hungarian province of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy forty-seven years ago. At an early age he left his native country together with his brother Morris Toffler, also of this city, and came to America, landing in New York. From there he came to Leavenworth and engaged in the clothing business at the place where he lived at the time of his death. He had lost the use of both eyes many years ago and the business was mainly conducted by his wife and children after the misfortune overcame him.
The funeral will be held from the home this afternoon at 2 o'clock and interment will be in the Jewish sectarian cemetery north of the city.
The pallbearers will be: Jacob Halz, Rev. Barofski, Herman Levy, Henry Sellers, Marcus Ettenson, and H. Jacobson.
The deceased leaves a wife, Mrs. Mary Toffler; two sons, Arthur and Louis, both of this city; and two daughters, Katherine and Minne, also of Leavenworth, besides his brother, M. Toffler.
From The Leavenworth Times, Tuesday Morning, February 16, 1904.
