Biography

NOTES: JOAN EVANS

Clarissa is certainly Hackey's wife on the 1850 census. In fact, I believe that it may be her "only record."

I have always been unsure if she was the mother of any of Hackey's children. I do not believe that Hackey has even one granddaughter or a great-granddaugher named CLARISA. There are numerous Harriets and Marthas. I find it strange that we have no Clarisas.

BUT we do know that Hackey is from Delaware:

Hackey Walker was the boyhood next door neighbor of my first Jasper Co. relative, James T. Ellis. James was born in Sussex Co., DE, in the Little Creek Hundred area. Family tradition goes that James heard trees being chopped, so he saddled up and rode over to see what the fuss was. Imagine his surprise to find Hackey clearing his own homesite!

James came to the Jasper Co. area in 1805. Apparently a huge influx of Ellises, Lloyds, Knowles, and Smiths all came from Sussex Co., DE around the same time. You may want to look there for more information on Hackey.

Good luck Lorri

Hackey has a descendant participating in the Y-dna Project, somewhat proving speculation that Hackey was probably a grandson of Thomas Walker of Somerset MD who willed to his son Emanuel:

"In the Name of God Amen I Thomas Walker Senr. of Somerset County in the province of Maryland....................

Item I give and bequeath unto my wellbeloved son Emanuel Walker fifty five Acres of Land lying on Cod Creek called Walkers Folly being pattend only five Acres and the other fifty acres being his Lordships Manner..............

..............................I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of April in the year of our Lord 1766 Sealed & Declared by the above named Thos. Walker"

Clarissa was born about 1773. She passed away after 1850.

Her maiden name was williams. It would be the same sources as for her husband.
