Eleanor was born about 1758 and died 7 May 1827.[1] She was buried in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery in Somerset, Perry County, Ohio.[1]

Conflation with Mary Todd

Most Melick researchers will be familiar with Andrew D. Mellick's “The Story Of An Old Farm”[2], which is the first (and only?) major genealogical work on the Melick family in the US. Although it a remarkable and extremely useful source for family researchers, it is not without error, and it seems that one of those errors is that the author unwittingly conflated two John Melick/Malick's and their families. The John Melick in question appears twice, on p. 637 & 642, #24, where it appears that the father, marriage date, wife, and administration of the Appleman estate actually belong to the Hampshire Co., West Virginia John Malick (1762-1844) and the children and Ohio residence belong to the Perry County, Ohio, John Melick (1753-1834). This profile belongs to Eleanor, the wife of the Ohio John Melick, while the name Mary Todd belongs to Mary (Todd) Malick (1762-1830), the wife of the West Virginia John Malick.

A lot more work needs to be done to prove that these two couples are in fact separate people. A lot of Melick researchers have been trying to untangle them for much longer than me and there are all kinds of forum posts and discussions all over the internet about it. I plan to add more information/sourcing to the appropriate profiles in the future, but it may take a while. For now, I think Melick Professional Genealogists have given a pretty good summary of the main points in the blog "USE MULTIPLE SOURCES TO CONFIRM ACCURACY OF YOUR FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH". Any help from more knowledgeable researchers would be welcome, as long as there are sources to back up the facts.

Todd-11238 and Unknown-568292 appear to represent the same person because: I have further compared the two and I'm confident that is the same person. Let's merge them.

Todd-11238 and Unknown-568292 appear to represent the same person because: They have the same daughter and husband, and the same birth/death year. The biography for Unknown-568292 has a note explaining why the surname Todd should not be used at this point, unless a reliable source besides Andrew D. Mellick's "Story of an Old Farm" can be found to prove that Todd is correct.
